A Reminder That God Will Provide

DAY 12 OF 12

Revered, Not Overlooked
By Mark Hayes, President of Ministry

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” (Matthew 25:40)

Our God, the King of all, cares for the daily needs of billions of people in the world every day. That concept amazes me. But sometimes it also makes me feel very small and insignificant. Does God notice me? Does he care about the little problems I bring to Him? Does He have time for me? That question is perhaps more prominent in the lives of people society tends to forget:

  • Seniors who are no longer as active in the community as they once were, now living quietly as a resident in a care community, many whose abilities are diminishing with age.
  • People with developmental disabilities whose gifts don’t seem to make a splash in this big world.

When a widow named Sophie Boessling became one of those people, she took everything she had to provide a solution. That solution was not just for herself, however. She had in mind to remember others who were overlooked and felt insignificant and found a way to provide for them. That was the beginning of The Lutheran Home Association on November 6, 1898. Her faith in Jesus and her loving heart set the tone for our mission to share Christ’s love while caring for the needs of others.

Our King cares deeply for those whom some may consider “insignificant.” In fact, He considers them with reverence. He says that the faith of a little child is a model of faith. He says that the least by our standards are the greatest in His Kingdom. And He tells us that anytime we care for them, we are showing love directly to Him.

We are incredibly blessed to carry on this ministry for more than 100 years. May God allow us to continue to nurture the significance and value of these wonderful children of God until He returns to take us all home.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, our Savior, and King. We are so grateful that you include us in your family and give us significance that the world cannot give. Thank you for the privilege of serving people who are incredibly special to You. Please help the ministry of TLHA continue to endure and thrive. Fill us with the joy of knowing that when we serve others in need, we are serving You. Amen.

A Reminder That God Will Provide

We’ve heard it before, God will provide. But what exactly will he provide us? The answer is simple, whatever we need. This 12-day devotion series, shared by The Lutheran Home Association’s chaplains, will give insight into all the different things God has promised to provide for us.
