The Choice of ExcellenceНамуна
God’s Nature Is Excellence
“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 NLT
Who we are will determine how we will respond in every circumstance. The same is true of God. His response is determined by who He is. Peter points to God’s glory and excellence as the underlying reasons for why he called us to Himself and why He has given us the great promise of sharing in His divine nature. God acted out of his excellence. God does not occasionally do things that are excellent. God is excellent and therefore every action that flows out of Him reflects that excellence.
Peter tells us that part of the promises God has made to us is that we can share His divine nature and escape the world’s corruption. God wants to impart to us the same spirit or nature of excellence so that we do not respond as the world would respond; so that excellence is not something we occasionally do. God desires for excellence to be our character so that everything we do flows out of a nature of excellence. May we take on His divine nature so that everything that flows out of us will be marked by His excellent nature.
