4 Essential Money Lessons From the BibleНамуна
Act As a Steward
“...‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy!” Matthew 25:21
We are called to be faithful with all of our finances. Yes, all 100%. Many Christians have been trained to handle 10% of their money God’s way through giving a tithe, but they consider the other 90% to be “their money.” I find it powerful to remember that 100% of what I have has been given to me by God.
It reminds me of a story I heard about a dad who bought his young daughter a Happy Meal at McDonald’s, then sat down with her in a booth while she ate. He asked his daughter, “may I have a french fry?”
She replied, “No. They are mine.”
How many times are we like this with God?
We might think, “Wait a minute, I earned my money by using my time, my knowledge, my skills, and my abilities.” Like the dad who bought the Happy Meal, isn’t it God who gave you life, knowledge, skill and ability to begin with? There is no wealth that we generate on our own; it all comes as a result of His power at work in us (Deut 8:18)?
Today, let’s take Paul’s admonition to heart as we ask God to align our thinking with the Truth that all we have is His. You may not consider yourself “rich” by American standards, but alongside the masses worldwide who live in abject poverty, you and I are abundantly blessed:
“Tell those rich in this world’s wealth to quit being so full of themselves and so obsessed with money, which is here today and gone tomorrow. Tell them to go after God, who piles on all the riches we could ever manage—to do good, to be rich in helping others, to be extravagantly generous. If they do that, they’ll build a treasury that will last, gaining life that is truly life.” 1 Timothy 6:17 MSG

About this Plan
Most of us tend to learn how to handle money from all the wrong places. Even if they aren’t explicit financial lessons, we develop our beliefs and habits about money from the world around us. From Instagram influencers, credit card companies, to well-meaning (but broke) friends and family. But what if we looked to the Bible as our starting point for our financial education?
