DAY 12 OF 20

Can we all agree mean people are, well, mean? It can honestly be so brutal out there. They say and do things with the single intention of hurting other people and making their lives difficult. Ironically, we tend to believe the only way to deal with mean people is to respond with an equal or greater level of meanness. You know, to put them in their "place." However, God teaches us a different path for us to follow, and this path is challenging. God wants us to love them.

God wants us to pray for them (and not the prayers that they disappear off the face of the Earth or get massive pimples all over their face). We are even instructed to bless them. Why does God want us to live this way? Because the mean people are part of creation too, just like you. How do we show them this type of love, compassion, and blessing? By letting Jesus guide our hearts, minds, and words. Radical people love the unlovable.

How is Jesus guiding your heart, mind, and words today?

About this Plan

Rad

Jesus had a lot to say about love, but not everyone loved him. Instead, Jesus’ opponents hated him, attacked him, and saw him as extreme — a radical. And they had a point! The things Jesus taught about loving God and others challenged the status quo. In this 4-week devotional series from Grow Curriculum, we'll look at four ways Jesus invites us to love others according to his revolutionary example.
