Jesus as Saviour
Acts 4:12 NLT There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.
For Jesus to be our Saviour, it means we were either headed for danger or that we’re already in danger. The truth is, because of Adam’s sin all of mankind is heading towards danger - eternal separation from God (Romans 6:23). But Adam’s sin did not just endanger Mankind’s eternal future; it affected all of life here on earth, here and now.
Adam did not fall from heaven; he fell in the garden. Redemption cannot merely be a passport to heaven; it needs to bring about the restoration of what was lost in the garden. As the Saviour of Mankind, Christ’s redemption encompasses both the here-and-now and the future. What He did on the Cross saved us from a life of separation from God now, and in the future.
Salvation is in Christ alone
Jesus Christ is the last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45) – He is the only one who could restore everything the first Adam lost.
Romans 5:8 CSB But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:17 NLT For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:18 NLT Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.
Salvation is Free
One of the most misunderstood and confusing aspects of our salvation is the fact that it is not dependent on what we do or do not do. In Christ, our Salvation was DONE; there is nothing we can do, un-do or stop doing that can earn us our salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Salvation sets us free from the power of sin:
Romans 8:2 NLT But the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
- From the consequence of sin:
In NOT DO BUT DONE, Alan Platt explains the heart of Romans 5:17 in this way (emphasis added):
The conclusion is clear: it took just one offence to condemn mankind; one act of righteousness declares the same mankind innocent! The disobedience of the one man exhibits humanity as sinners, the obedience of another man exhibits humanity as righteous!
- From inferiority:
Galatians 3:28 NLT There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Our reference for life is not found in anything like gender, social status, or race, but in Christ.
Paul is convinced that whatever happened to the human race because of Adam’s fall, is far superseded in every possible proportion by the revelation of humanity’s inclusion in the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. Now being in Christ we are therefore no longer ‘Sinners’ we are the ‘Righteousness of God’. (Alan Platt – NOT DO BUT DONE)
About this Plan
In the person of Jesus, God calls all people not to simply know about Him, but to follow Him with all that we are. Following Jesus daily is more like a habit than it is a moment. Habits are things we do often and regularly, without consciously thinking we have to do them. This 40-day plan will explore life-giving habits to establish us in the new life that Jesus gives.
