The Shadow of Your WingsНамуна
“I just want to fly…”
I believe fear and anxiety are some of the enemy’s most powerful tools for those who are saved. Instead of trusting in God, we doubt Him and we doubt His promises. Instead of enjoying the journey, our joy is stolen and every step forward is painful and burdensome.
Yet it is a feeling that paralyzes. It is crippling. It is so difficult to overcome our own strength. And it is even more difficult to trust in God’s strength when that feeling overtakes us. I’ve been there many times.
To be quite honest, I recently almost quit my whole career due to overwhelming fear. I hate singing in front of people, I hate speaking in front of people, I take everything people say to heart, I feel so unequipped and unprepared for this lifestyle. My reasoning goes on and on. At times I’m ashamed to say I let myself drown in the downward spiral of my thoughts.
God, is this really where You want me? Are You sure?
I ask again and again and again. My recent single, Fly, is about this journey of overcoming fear. It is something I am very passionate about because I have lived it. And so have many of God’s followers.
I say this truly and simply, the only way past this is by faith. A faith in a God who knows what He is doing. A faith in knowing that although we are weak, He is strong. There is even a story in the Old Testament where the Lord keeps sending soldiers back until the army dwindles down to just 300 men. Although the odds may be stacked against you, it is to show the glory of God in the end.
The best comfort to me has been the stories I have attached to today’s devotional. I pray that you read them and are blessed. Hold onto them, for God is the same yesterday, today and forever. The God of these bible characters is also the God of your soul. All He seeks is an open vessel and a willing heart, He will do the rest. He will take your two fish and five loaves and He will multiply it beyond your comprehension. If you simply have faith.
Prayer: God, I surrender my fear to you today. I put my faith and hope in You. Your word says that if I have faith as small as a mustard seed it can move mountains. Grow my faith please, Lord. Quiet my fears and anxieties. Today I choose to lay ahold of Your promises towards me. That You will never leave or forsake me. Amen.
Action: Study these stories of people who overcame fear by trusting in the Lord. Memorize your favorite verse among them and pray it every time fear or anxiety begins to overtake you.
