The Priority of God’s Presence and Perspective

Then let us bring again the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul.” 1 Chronicles 13:3 (ESV)

And David inquired of God, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up, and I will give them into your hand.” 1 Chronicles 14:10 (ESV)

David called Israel together, to bring back the ark that was abandoned in Hebron during Saul's reign, 'for we did not seek it in the days of Saul' (1 Chronicle 13:3). This was David’s first command as the new King to re-establish the priority of God’s presence. David’s other priority was to understand God's perspective and this enabled him to succeed when odds were so often against him: 'Is now the right time to attack the Philistines...will you give me the victory?' he inquired of God (1 Chronicle 14:10). 

The biggest difference between religion and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is understanding and nurturing God’s presence. It’s by nurturing Holy Spirit’s presence that we come to know God deeper, understand His ways more clearly, hear His leading and enjoy His peace. 

Prayer

We praise You and we thank You Lord for this awesome gift of Your presence. Remind me when I forget, that nurturing Your presence is my first priority, and that time in Your presence teaches me Your perspective.
