Stand with God by Being His Ambassador
We live in a busy time, and it seems like we are constantly “on the go.” From work or school commitments to family, church and community commitments, it’s easy to feel like a hamster on a wheel. Yet, even in the midst of an overloaded, multi-tasking society, Christians are called to another assignment. (Read 2 Corinthians 5:20)
In today’s film clip, Grace is going about her workday, doing what she planned to do. She had prepared her class lesson, crafted her comprehension questions, and presented the material so that her students would grasp the subject matter. Still, Grace had another, greater role, and one with eternal consequences: to be an ambassador for Jesus Christ.
How?
By showing genuine care and concern for her student, Brooke.
It doesn’t seem very earth shattering, does it? Grace didn’t work a miracle; she just showed empathy. But isn’t that important? Isn’t taking the time to recognize someone’s hurt and offering support something Jesus would expect us to do, and even something He would do Himself?
Our scripture verse today talks about being ambassadors for Christ. An ambassador represents a foreign government and advocates the official position to a people often unfamiliar with the culture. That’s what we are called to do for the Lord. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we embody Christ’s teachings and live them out before others with the hope that some day a door will open to share the Good News. It can begin with an observation. Or it can begin with a question. Only God knows how He plans to work on the hearts of those around us; we are just to be sensitive to the needs of others and available when the time is right.
Notice I said time. This is something that seems very scarce these days; however, let’s not neglect our role as ambassadors for the Lord because we are too busy. As you continue the God’s Not Dead 2 Reading Plan, think about the impact Grace’s question had on Brooke’s soul. And think about what might have happened if Brooke had been too busy to ask it.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, I pray that each one of us will be more aware of the needs of others and more mindful of our role as ambassadors for Christ. Sometimes it is easy to be too busy with our daily routines to notice the burdens others carry, especially when they suffer silently. I ask that the Holy Spirit will help us to observe more closely, listen more clearly and care more deeply so that those who are troubled will be comforted and those who are lost will be saved.
In Jesus name, amen.
