The Power of 1440: Making the Most of Every Minute in a DayНамуна
The Power of One Day
Let me tell you about a number. One thousand four hundred forty, to be precise. This number opened my eyes to possibilities and reminded me that God wants me to enjoy a magnificent life, not a mediocre one.
1440 is the exact number of daily golden opportunities God gives to every one of us as freely as the air we breathe and the sunshine that warms us. Not just once, at birth, in a limited supply with strict instructions to make it last. Not just on special occasions when we might beg extra hard for a divine blessing. Your Creator gives you 1440 invitations to grab hold of a life that is more abundant and more joyful than anything you’ve ever experienced.
Every. Single. Day.
Dawn to dawn, inclusive of those essential times of resting and recharging, 1440 is the number of chances every single person on earth has to make this day truly extraordinary. It doesn’t matter who you are, what you’ve done, the color of your skin, the language you speak, or the religion of your culture. Everyone receives the same deposit of time each day.
God’s original plan was each day would be better than good. The type of day that leaves you satisfied, knowing that you’ve squeezed every moment of greatness out of it.
Today is all you’ve got. Trying to unlock the power of 1440 in your life without understanding this truth would be like trying to start your car without the key. It’s theoretically possible but a whole lot harder. Here’s what you need to know.
The past is gone. Totally beyond your reach or your ability to control. You can try to repair damage done in the past or relive a moment that was pleasurable—but only today.
The future is a fantasy and also completely outside your grasp. You can prepare for the tomorrow you want or take steps to avoid one you’d rather not live through today and nowhere else.
Sure, your personality is made up of your memories and your aspirations. But the part of your life you actually live, without exception, is the part happening right in front of you right now.
Your biggest enemies in the quest for a more abundant and rewarding life can seem like big, bad warlords who are seriously entrenched in these two provinces of your mind: the past and the future. Time—any time but the present—is the part of your life occupied by all your worry, fear, doubt, anxiety, guilt, anger, boredom, and regret. Try to live there instead of today, and more often than not you’ll take a beating from thoughts that don’t serve you now.
Today is the day you are meant to live. Now is the inheritance that is yours to spend. You are in charge. No one can choose for you how you spend your 1440 gold coins. No one else can decide what thoughts you give your attention to or which actions you invest your energy in. It’s up to you.
If your life is stagnant and disappointing, then everything you need to turn things around is right at your fingertips in the 1440 minutes in this day. But you have to decide to put them to use.
Every one of your 1440 minutes today contains the potential to transform your life and the world around you if you choose to make it so.
Respond
When you woke up this morning, what was your first thought?
Have you ever dreaded getting out of bed due to fear, worry, doubt, distraction, depression, regret, hopelessness, or just plain boredom? If so, explain the situation. In what way(s) did thoughts about your past or worries about your future influence your attitude that day?
Do you tend to view your 1440 minutes as a burden or as a priceless treasure? Ask God to give you his perspective on the 1440 heavenly jewels he has given you today.
