Surfers Love the Psalms

DAY 1 OF 5

When you’re afraid

Psalm 27

The Lord is my light and my salvation

whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life

of whom shall I be afraid?

I love these verses at the beginning of Psalm 27. In fact, I love the whole Psalm!

It is such a great reminder that God is our salvation, and that you and I don’t need to be afraid of anything. We don’t need to be afraid of big waves, people, uncertainty, the enemy, or even death.

We know without a doubt – we have a clear assurance – that Jesus has taken my sins and yours on the cross.

Now, even when bad things happen or trials come our way, or one day our time here on earth finishes, we will be with the Father in Heaven.

As it says, “The Lord is my salvation; whom shall I fear?”

I love coming back to this verse as a good reminder that I shouldn’t be afraid.

And I want to encourage you that the struggles and trials you’re facing in your life are never so big that God can’t deal with them, never so big that He can’t protect you and fill you with His courage and strength.

Meditate on these words next time you’re sitting in the line-up and ask God to speak to your heart that He is always your light and salvation. Today, and every day.

  • What are you most afraid of? What is at the heart of that fear?
  • Take your fears and anxieties to your heavenly Father today. Ask Him to lift the burden from your shoulders and give you His spirit of love and peace to overcome your fear.
