A Cut Above the Rest

DAY 4 OF 7

Uninvited. Underrated. Unaccepted.

Some people make a grand entry into stardom. But others struggle on their way through life. David was one of the most ignored and neglected characters. Which father would drop his own son from attending a party held in his own home? Jesse, David’s father, did just that. He gathered all his sons except poor David. After being anointed by Samuel in the presence of his entire family, David was still used as an errand boy. His father asked him to carry roasted grain and bread loaves to his brothers who were fighting in Saul’s army. When David, provoked by Goliath’s badgering, showed up at Saul’s camp to volunteer to take on the mighty Goliath, Saul belittled him as he could only see a mere boy in David. He was always the uninvited, the underrated and the unaccepted one until the day he became the king of Israel.

When I was inducted, all my peers in the department were assigned a computer immediately while mine took about a month to arrive. It was quite humiliating. But, since I enjoyed the work and the team, I overlooked it and looked for opportunities to share someone’s computer whenever they would take a break or step out. Today, needless to say, God has lifted me up to head that very department.

Never despise the early, struggling days. God’s way of operating starts with character formation before career progression. JK Rowling, the celebrated novelist of the Harry Potter series, wrote her novels sitting in coffee shops, as she could not afford a heating system. Oprah Winfrey, the renowned Talk show host, was rejected for TV initially. Colonel Sanders, who concocted the recipe for the world-famous KFC, struggled and failed many times before he finally succeeded with the KFC franchise model at the age of 60.

So go ahead, ignore the reproaches, overlook the insults, cherish the lessons learned in difficult situations, get over the bad phases of your career and always be hopeful of fruitful and successful days ahead. The seasons of life will definitely change, the sweat of labour will surely yield fruit and rewards due to you will catch up with you in the end.

Dear Lord, teach me never to ignore the day of humble beginnings. Amen
