Love God Greatly: In the BeginningНамуна
On the sixth day of creation God filled the land He created. He created animals, and most significantly, humans. Genesis 2 offers a detailed account, a different perspective, on the details of the creation of humanity. The detail the author of Genesis included about the creation of man and woman shows how humans are set apart from animals, how we are made in the image of God.
In Psalm 8, David reflected on the magnificence of God displayed in creation. He wondered, with the moon and stars and all their majesty, what significance do humans have? How could humans have any significance in a world with such magnificent features? Why should God notice humanity with all the splendor of creation?
God did not create humanity as an afterthought. God created us in His image, but more than that, gave us authority and honor and majesty. As image–bearers of God we are appointed to rule over creation, a little less than the heavenly beings.
In all of the magnificence of the world and the heavens, we are God’s crowning creation. He chose us to bear His image. He chose us to honor His character. And He chose to redeem us when we sinned. Even in all the details and intricacies of creation, you matter to God. He cares about you, your life, and your circumstances.
Prayer:
Lord God, I am humbled and in awe of Your attention to me. You care for me. You have given me honor and majesty because I am created in Your image. May my life be an accurate reflection of Your character as I seek to display Your love and holiness to the world. Amen.
