Am I in This Alone?
Doubt makes us wonder if God cares. When we question His attention, a battle begins in our minds. Maybe you’ve been here before—you feel exhausted all day because your mind is racing, or you’re troubled with anxiety and you feel like you can barely stay awake. Then, when it comes time to fall asleep, your mind is spinning and you can’t fall asleep. The cycle continues day and night. That’s what the author of this psalm was feeling too. “How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day?” Psalms 13:2.
The phrase “every day” captures this idea of endlessly struggling—both day and night. There are times when our doubt about our suffering and our doubt about God, turns into an endless doubt: when it seems like we can’t catch a break. When days and nights roll by and you just can’t seem to find the peace you so desperately need, it is easy to just want to quit.
Why keep seeking God, why keep asking for help, why keep crying out when there never seems to be an answer? Maybe you feel so stuck in doubt you don’t know what to pray for, but this is the perfect opportunity to honestly tell God all of those things. Stay committed to confessing your problems, your doubts, and the pain you feel. Stay committed to praying and asking for His help. Stay committed to speaking God’s promises over your life. He is not done yet. You are not alone. He made a promise that He won’t leave you, and God doesn’t break His promises.
