Dealing With Loneliness

DAY 1 OF 7

Fear not!

Loneliness is a scary condition. Most people don’t want to be lonely. I think that it’s natural to have some alone time, but deep down it can get scary.

Have you ever been alone in the forest? Alone at night in the forest? Are you scared yet?

I spent a lot of time alone as a teenager in Europe. My siblings had moved on with their lives, and I was stuck in a big house alone. My hockey practices were about two hours away. I had to ride a bike and then take a train and then a tram to get to the hockey arena. I didn’t have any friends who lived close to our home, and all my friends lived in Canada. I felt so alone.

My dad was working 80 hours a week, and my mom would often travel with him. I was really alone. If only I had a relationship with God during those lonely times. God promises He will never leave us alone. “…God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”” (Hebrews 13:5, NIV)

He encourages us to “Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10, NKJV)

Being alone is truly scary, but God promises you He will never leave you.

Do you feel alone? I’m praying you will lean into your relationship with God. I’m believing He will help you overcome all fear. Fear isolates you, but faith in God propels you to build new friendships and add value to others. You can live in fear, or you can walk with God and never be alone.

Because you’re a miracle.
