Jesus: The Man Who Changed History

DAY 12 OF 21

The author A.W. Tozer said:

“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us”.

What comes into our mind when we think about God is really important.

But much MORE important is what comes into God’s mind when he thinks about us.

And what comes into his mind is love – love we really don’t deserve.

Will we be content to let the message of the cross pass as if it was insignificant?

Mark records the different perspectives of people who witnessed the death of Jesus.

Who do you most identify with?

Pontius Pilate

The Roman Governor who knows Jesus is innocent at his public trial.

He chooses to release a murderer named Barabbas instead.

He gives into peer pressure and goes with the crowd.

The soldiers

The soldiers are too busy gambling for Jesus’ clothes.

They don’t realize the importance of the cross.

They’re wrapped up in themselves.

The religious leaders

Self-righteous and arrogant

They think they don’t need Jesus and can get to God themselves.

They reject Jesus and mock him as he hangs there dying.

A Roman centurion

A professional officer of the Roman army who had fought many campaigns and seen many men die.

But he’d never seen anyone die like this.

He’s different.

He gets it right.

Mark 15:39

“And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and saw how he died, he said, ‘Surely this man was the Son of God!’”

What about you?

What do you see as you look at the cross?

Would you trust God if, in love, he gave up his life for you?
