Swords Up: How to Use the Weapon of God’s Word

DAY 5 OF 7

Principle #4: I commit the Word of God to memory.

In life, we’re often presented with lies from the enemy. If we’re not equipped with the truth of God’s Word, we’ll be crushed. We have to commit to hiding the Word of God with scripture memorization so that we can take our stand against the enemy. We’re most likely to remember 100% of the things we memorize as long as we regularly review them.

So, when thoughts of loneliness try to bring me down, I can remember that the Lord will never leave me or forsake me (Deuteronomy 31:6). When I feel unloved, I remember that God so loved me that He gave His only Son (John 3:16). We have to be equipped with the Word to be prepared in battle. Memorizing God’s Word will help us do that.

Action Steps:

  1. Set a Time - Remember that it’s a lot easier to forget things we don’t prioritize. Set a time to regularly review the verses you’re memorizing.
  2. Accountability - Memorize a passage of scripture with your family or friends. It helps you stay committed and might make it more fun.
  3. Learning Style - We all learn differently, so memorize using tools that will help you as a visual learner, auditory learner, kinesthetic learner, or read/write learner.
