New Life

DAY 3 OF 3

“Search me, O God, know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

“He wants you to know Him, deeply.” This statement is so true. It was true when David wrote it out in Psalm 139 and it is true for you today. God wants us to know Him for a purpose. David is asking God to take an honest look at him and know him deeply and truly. David knows that what God will see is wretched and awful. Yet, David’s plea remains for God to look at his immorality and to test not merely his actions, but his most deep and personal thoughts. Why would David want God to know all of his sin and come clean with the Lord?

The result of our confessions of sin are a restored relationship with the one true God. Only then are we permitted to walk in the “way everlasting.” That way is Christ. He is “the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6 NIV). Remember, it was Christ who sought you out, stirred a longing for Him in your heart, and led you to the confession of your sin. It’s only by His grace that we have anything to do with the Father. God will lead you in the “way everlasting” because He is the way everlasting.

Prayer:

God, You are the way everlasting. You are the one true God, the way, the truth, and the life. Take an honest look at me and know me deeply, and truly. Know all of my sins, to end my life of active rebellion against You. Jesus, help me to walk with You every step of the way. Help me to remember You and what You have done for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen

Question:

  • What does it look like for God to test you?

Activity:

Spend time without technology, and ask God to know your every thought. Ask Him how to love Him with all your mind, and journal about your experience.
