Shook - Science and Faith

DAY 2 OF 3

On Day 1 we explored the idea that the evidence of God is all around us.

On Day 2 we looked at some heartfelt questions that science cannot answer, but faith certainly can.

Today, let’s talk about a few of the many ways that God’s Word can rock your world.

God used scripture to help Professor Ard Louis connect his passion for science with his love for Jesus. That’s a big deal. The insight he gained shook things up. It changed the trajectory of his life.

Can God’s Word do all that?

You betcha. And here’s the reason why:

In the book of Hebrews, we read: “For the word of God is alive and active” (Hebrews 4:12).

Not dry ideas. Not stale words. Not pontification from the past.

God’s word is alive and active today.

What do you need today that would make a profound difference in your life? Whatever it is, God’s Word has something for you!

Do you need wisdom and direction?

In the book of Psalms, we find three verses that describe God’s Word as a powerful source of guidance. God’s Word is like a lamp lighting our paths (119:105) and a light that gives understanding (119:130). It also makes us wiser than our enemies, more insightful than our teachers, and more perceptive than our elders! (119:97-100).

Do you need a shot of faith?

When we are feeling vulnerable or discouraged, how do we bolster our faith? Romans 10:17 tells us that our faith grows as we hear the message which comes through the word about Christ.

Do you wish you had more joy?

Can the Word of God become your joy and your heart’s delight? Your heritage and the joy of your heart? According to Jeremiah 15:16 and Psalm 119:111, it certainly can!

Do you long to be steadied by peace?

When your world is shaken by chaos, disappointment, or loss, knowing and loving the Word of God can be a stabilizing factor. The Psalmist assures us that “Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble” (Psalm 119:165).

Could you use some help and hope?

The next time you spend a night tossing and turning with worry or grief, read Psalm 119:147, and do what it says: cry out to him and find hope in his Word. You’ll feel encouraged!

Do you wonder what will happen after you die?

God’s Word assures us that that if we believe in the name of Jesus, we are saved and will experience eternal life. (1 John 5:13).

Are you hungry for something more?

To our bodies, food means sustenance, energy, and life. Food pleases and satisfies. It leaves us refreshed and ready for the next adventure. Without it, we die.

The word of God means all this and more to our spirits. These verses say it well:

“Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God'" (Matthew 4:4).

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103).

Now that you know some of the ways God’s Word can rock your world, what are you waiting for?

Dear God, I accept your invitation to engage with you through your Word. Give me a newfound hunger to hear all that you want to say to me. I want to reap the benefits of your Word, which is alive and active and has something for me today.
