The Heart Attitudes: Part 7

DAY 1 OF 5

Heart Attitude #6 – Support the work financially

“Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart – not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make every grace overflow to you, so that in every way, always having everything you need, you may excel in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

I can imagine your thoughts when you saw this principle. Most college students think something along the lines of “great, here is a principle that does not apply to me at all!” Not so fast, my friend. This week we will see how supporting God's work financially applies to all of us, regardless of our current or future financial circumstances.

College is often a time where we scrimp to get by. Eating Ramen noodles and grilled cheese sandwiches to survive. We do not have a lot of disposable income or we are living off money from our parents. Even in these situations, we still bear a part of the burden to help the work of the ministry financially.

Jesus chose a widow who gave all she had, which was equivalent to about a penny in our day, to highlight the principle of giving. It is not the amount that matters but the attitude of the heart toward giving to support the work of ministry.

Ministry takes money to accomplish. While there are examples of ministers who misuse or abuse money given to the church, most live well below the level of the people they serve. It takes a lot of people giving together to make the resources needed for ministries to come together. God calls all of us to be a part of reaching the world through our combined financial support.

About this Plan

The Heart Attitudes: Part 7

This week we look at the sixth heart attitude: support the work financially. We will discover the way the Lord has established to support His work and our place in that plan. We will explore how to give our gifts to the Lord and how we can grow to become a cheerful giver to the Lord.
