Headed for Heaven

DAY 2 OF 4

Heaven Is Far Better

What a hope you have in Jesus! You have much to look forward to because like the apostle Paul, you know where you’re going when you leave this earth.

Paul said, “To live is Christ, to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). He knew that to be with Christ in heaven is far better than life here on earth (Philippians 1:23).

When I was 37 years old, my 37-year-old husband – a pastor and a man of faith – died suddenly. He hadn’t been sick or anything, he just went to bed on New Year’s Day 1997 and woke up in heaven. As you can imagine, it drastically affected my life and the lives of our teenage sons. I had a lot of questions, but one thing I knew for sure was that he was saved, so I would see him again in heaven. I knew he was in my future.

Now whenever someone says to me, “I’m sorry you lost your husband,” I always answer, “Oh, I didn’t lose him, I know right when he is!” He is in a place that is far better. He has gained! There is such a peace of mind in knowing that.

If you’ve had a Christian loved one die, you don’t have to worry that you’ll never see them again. Because they’ve received Jesus, you’ll spend eternity together. Right now they are safely tucked away in heaven, seeing Jesus face-to-face and walking on streets of gold. They are having a great time!

When you get there, your loved one won’t say, “What took you so long?” Why? Because there is no time in heaven, at least not like time is measured here on earth. It is eternity. We don’t really know what it will be like, but I like to think that your loved one will just say, “Oh good, you’re here. Let’s go!” Then they’ll show you around the place, and you’ll see for sure that heaven is far better than earth.

About this Plan

Headed for Heaven

In today’s world, it’s vital to remember where we’re ultimately going to end up, so we can be a shining light and unafraid. If you’re born again, you’re headed for heaven when you leave this earth! So keep your eyes on the prize and keep your joy. It’s time to live in God’s peace and boldly tell others how they, too, can make heaven their eternal home.
