Do you know what your purpose in life is? That thing that will give your life meaning and fulfillment, which you feel empty without? When we look at the Westminster Confession of Faith, a well-respected Christian document, we find the first question asked is the same: “What is the chief end of man”, or rather, what is every person’s primary reason and purpose for existing? The answer is short and sweet, “to glorify God, and enjoy Him forever”.
In this passage Paul tells the church that they can walk in a manner worthy of Him, pleasing to God in every respect, with the result that they will joyously give thanks to the Father. Here Paul gives us the answer we find in the Westminster Confession, glorify God in the way that you walk, your day to day lives, and with that will come a joy for Him. However, this all starts in verse 9 with a knowledge of His will.
Understanding who God is, what He is like, what He has done for us, His plan for us, is essential to fulfilling our purpose in life. We cannot glorify and enjoy what we do not know.
The question today, the most important one that you need to answer before you do anything, is whether or not you know this God that takes people from the domain of darkness and puts them in the domain of light? How can you tell?
‘Belief’ in the Bible is not a head knowledge but is always linked to a change in affections and actions. Do you have a desire to glorify God with your life? Do you find joy in knowing God? Are you living differently because of this desire and joy?
If not, then be encouraged today to make this your most important pursuit! Make it your life’s goal to know Him as revealed in the Bible, and you will find a life of fulfilled purpose!
Pray today in your own words that God will open your eyes to who He is and what He has done for you through Jesus.

About this Plan
The letter to the Church in Colossae was written by Paul as a REALITY CHECK on the things that are considered of greatest value for those following Jesus, the threats against them and how to live amidst the culture surrounding them. He investigates the vast ideas of Christ’s Supremacy, which is ultimate reality, all the way to the personal understanding of our new reality in Christ and fullness in Him.
