More Like Jesus, Less Like Me: A Three-Day Reading Plan by Zach Williams

DAY 1 OF 3

Day 1: A Little More Like Grace.

A little more like mercy

A little more like grace

A little more like kindness, goodness, love, and faith

Grace…

That’s a word used a lot when we talk about Jesus. The concept of grace is amazing and astounding. Jesus died on the cross because He has grace for us - the ultimate grace. There is another side to grace and it’s how we can practice being more like Jesus - having grace for others and for ourselves. Grace in those contexts is much harder to grasp and to practice but it’s so important.

I wrote the song “Less Like Me” because, like many people, I struggle a lot with feeling like I’m not worthy or good enough. But, having grace for myself means that I embrace my imperfections because there is a perfect God who loves me just the way I am. He loves you just the way that you are, flaws and all. And, what’s really amazing is that He doesn’t love you despite your flaws, He loves you because you are an imperfect human! Being imperfect means that we can have a real, heartfelt relationship with God, otherwise, we would just be robots following orders.

When we have grace with ourselves and accept that God’s grace actually applies to us too, we can also extend that to those around us. It’s not going to happen overnight, but maybe there is one moment in our day where we can have a little more grace for others than the day before - a little more patience in traffic, a gentler tone when speaking with someone, or a smile when walking down the sidewalk. I bet that you’ll find it helps the day be a little brighter for you too. It’s the little moments that create pockets of grace in our lives, which will enrich our relationship with Jesus all the more. Join me as I find a moment of grace in each day for myself and for others.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for loving me. Thank you for being the ultimate example of grace. Amen.
