Tom Brady Leaves His Comfort Zone
During the offseason, 42-year-old Tom Brady left the New England Patriots after 20 seasons…the only franchise he had ever known. Moving to a new team with a new coach and owner, he stepped out of his comfort zone in a big way.
Although everything had been a good fit for Brady, and the Patriots had given him a high level of success for a long time, he chose a path that led him on a new adventure with an opportunity to take on a fresh challenge.
Most of us probably embrace the idea of a comfortable, easy, and familiar life, but Brady has shown there is value in having the courage to take on brand-new opportunities that stretch us.
Especially as followers of Jesus, stepping out of our comfort zone tests us and gives us a different perspective. It provides us the opportunity to rely on God more, and ultimately, grow in our faith.
God reveals His glory and shows up in incredible ways when we leave the familiar confines we’ve grown accustomed to. When we experience new challenges, we get to see God powerfully move in us and through us as He strengthens us.
Instead of remaining stuck and complacent, God may lead us to take a step of faith toward the exciting endeavors He has planned for us. To do this, we must trust Him, seek His will, change our thought process, and renew our minds.
Romans 12:2 tells us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Today, let’s ask God to reveal His will to us and use us in fresh ways for His glory…even if that means we have to step out of our comfort zone.
I’m Bryce Johnson and you can UNPACK that!
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, help me not to be so stuck in my ways and unwilling to step out of my comfort zone. I ask that You’d renew my mind so I’d be willing to embrace the challenges of unfamiliarity and follow Your plan and purposes. I pray that my faith and reliance on You would grow. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
