Ringleaders: A Devotional for Girls Намуна
Elizabeth - Setting the Stage
In the Bible, we can read about the women God chose to play a role in delivering His important message. God helped each one of them do the special job they were assigned to do. One of these women is Elizabeth.
You can read about her in the gospel of Luke.
Read Luke 1:5–25.
The Bible calls Elizabeth “upright in the sight of God.” She is praised for keeping all of God’s commandments. A descendant of Moses’ brother, Aaron, Elizabeth was chosen by God for a very specific purpose. She was to be the mother of John the Baptist, the greatest of all the prophets.
God chose Elizabeth for the responsibility of raising and teaching John because she and her husband were faithful and honest and because they respected God and followed His instructions.
Activity: Discussion
Elizabeth’s name means “God is my oath.” Oath is another word for a promise. Look up Psalm 84:11 and read it out loud. Then discuss the following questions: 1. How is God a “sun and shield”? 2. The verse says, “The Lord gives grace and glory.” What is the difference between grace and glory? 3. What are some other promises God made in the Bible?
