Prayer for Progress

Devotion

Today you're going to pray for understanding the weight-releasing process—wisdom, discernment, and peace.

Change takes time, patience, discipline, commitment, and a whole lot of grace. For example, if one night you break your boundaries and eat after 7:00 pm when you said you wouldn't, don't beat yourself up and sabotage your entire plan. Pray, renew your mind, and keep on going—no guilt, no condemnation, no shame—just keep on going. Too many of us think that because we set a goal, it should be smooth sailing without any setbacks, and then we are distraught when setbacks come, and we quit altogether. Know that they WILL come and gird yourself up so that you will continue in victory from glory to glory.

We would much rather get to the end and bypass all of the ups and downs in the middle, but that would never draw us closer to God. Without going through the process, you will miss all the wonderful things your Heavenly Father wants to teach you and how He wants to strengthen you. Every time you grow weary, pray that you would stay the course, and not grow faint.

Action

Think about the process and your progress as you pray today. Pray that you will embrace the process regardless of the pace.

Validation

"It would take one year to lose 50 pounds at a rate of about 1 lb. per week! I would be thrilled to be 50 lbs. lighter this time next year!! I would look and feel great!"

"It will take me six months to attain my goal weight. I trust God to give me the strength and the resolve to keep moving forward."

"To get to a healthy weight, it will take one to two years. I am taking into account that I don't seem to drop weight as easily. I want to be at a safe weight. 135-140 would be ideal, but all I want to focus on is moving towards better health."

Declaration

Thank You for Your promises. I am making progress. From victory to victory, success to success, I am getting stronger each day. I am more than an overcomer. I am unstoppable, and I am advancing in everything I put my mind to. I am unstoppable!

Supplication

"Dear Lord, some days the progress feels so slow and seems like it will take forever to reach a healthy weight. Thank you for reminding me that the process and its lessons are just as important as the progress. I am getting stronger and stronger each day. I am learning new things about You and myself each day, and I am more than an overcomer. I have victory in You, Lord! Thank You for your love, grace, and blessings! Amen!"

Reflection

1. Meditate on God's desire for you to stay the course, despite the highs and lows.

2. Ask God to lead you to some practical steps to get you through the next time you experience a low in your journey. What scriptures is He leading you to?

3. Ask God for the strength and perseverance to rise to worship Him in the highs and draw closer to Him during the low periods of your weight loss journey.
