Forty Days Without Fear

DAY 22 OF 40

OVERCOMING FEAR OF THE FUTURE

Medical studies have proven that fear weakens our immune system, disrupts emotive regulation and increases the chance of depression. Every fear we have in life has the same effect; it causes us to be paralysed and stops us from moving forward. Yet the biggest paradox about the fear of God is that it has the opposite effect; it releases us to be free and to progress in life!

Today’s verses invite us to ‘come boldly to the throne of God.’ Even though we are called to fear God, we are, through relationship with Jesus, able to confidently come into the presence of God without any fear of condemnation or judgement.

The fear of God allows us to view Him as the One who causes demons to shudder in terror at His greatness, mountains to melt like wax before Him, and sin and death to bow completely at His feet. The fear of God allows us to say that no matter what the enemy throws at us, God in His infinite power, strength, and love, will turn all things to good.

The fear of God illuminates the freedom God has laid out for his children, but it is the sense of His love for us that allows us to enjoy that freedom. Once we know that because we follow Him, God is completely for us, we can walk fearlessly into the future knowing God lives in us, He is for us, and He has gone ahead of us.

Action: Consider any areas we are concerned about, any needs or worries concerning the future. Bring them before God on His throne and lay them before Him. How do we feel knowing He is mindful of them?
