Light and DarknessНамуна
Light was created by God
The Bible starts with the creation account: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” But, the second verse records, the earth was still without form and it was dark. This darkness was the first thing God changed! He spoke the light into existence. And He saw that it was good.
Light makes it possible for plants, animals and human beings to live and grow. Without light, there would just be emptiness and death. By creating light, God thus provided an important precondition for life. And He gave us a never- ending rhythm of day and night by creating the sun, the moon and the stars.
Later in the creation account, we read how God created dry land, plants, trees, animals, and ultimately humans. All this was “good”, and the end result was even “very good” in God’s eyes.
This first chapter of the Bible makes clear that the whole world did not develop spontaneously, but was carefully designed and made by the Lord. Even the light we enjoy every day, is a gift from our Creator. Thank you, God, that you created everything so “very good”!

About this Plan
Immediately in the first chapter of the Bible, we read how God created light. And further on in the Bible, light is often used as a metaphor for God’s domain as opposed to the domain of sin and death. Jesus even calls Himself “the Light of the world”. Light and darkness thus have an important place in the Bible. This reading plan presents a selection of verses about this topic.
