Bible for AllНамуна
When we seek to end something or help someone who is impoverished, we need to properly define and understand the word poverty.
Perhaps understanding poverty and seeking to end it means we recognize our own understanding of what Jesus meant when He said: “blessed are the poor in Spirit”. The simplest answer is when we come to God, we must realize our own sin, and our spiritual emptiness and poverty. When cannot be proud in our hearts, complacent, or thinking that we do not really need God.(James 4:6) Our example of “poor in Spirit” is Jesus, with the unmatched humility of his spirit that lived an obedient life unto death for our sakes, we need to see ourselves as weak, meek, and poor in spirit. Our understanding of our own impoverished heart allows God’s power to be made perfect in our weakness (2Cor12:9). Our recognition of our need for God leads us to be filled by His word. Matthew 4:4 states, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” The Bible also instructs us that “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” (Jos 1:8)
When we see ourselves as utterly helpless and completely dependent on Him, then and only then can we seek to end any sort of poverty in this world. Ending Bible poverty and bringing people the transformational power of the Word of God starts when all of us recognize our own spiritual poverty and need for total dependence on Jesus Christ. As we meditate on God’s Word and apply it to our everyday life, we become more equipped to serve others by operating out of the overflow of God’s presence in our lives.
