Uncommen: Resolved Mysteries

DAY 8 OF 10

Fulfilled Life

As men, we can fill our lives with whatever we worship. We can supply our hearts with goofy sinful things or we can choose love. Earthly treasures only give us temporary pleasure until the next shiny thing comes along. God wants us to provide Him with room to work. Sometimes that means we need to clear our lives of greed, selfishness, obscenity and overall immorality. Jesus wants us filled with the Holy Spirit. I lived a life full of brokenness. I lost moments with those I loved most due to greedy self-ambition. There was no kingdom bigger than mine. I filled my life with sinful things through poor choices. I was disconnected, isolated, and struggling to find my purpose; my identity came alive in my occupation. My status became baggage, filled with past and present failures, and began to dictate my future. When we hold on to the past tightly, we fear stepping into the future, and prevent ourselves from truly experiencing the bold life for which God has created us.

Jesus gives us an Uncommen way to think, to be wise, not unwise. Jesus shows us how to be Uncommen husbands to love our wives as He loved the church. Jesus gives a way to be “Uncommenly” by filling us with purpose. When Jesus grabbed me to be Uncommen, Ephesians 5:25-30 became my life verses. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—for we are members of his body.” (Ephesians 5:25–30, NIV)

Uncommen Questions:

What prevents you from displaying an Uncommen love?

How can you love others as Christ loved the church?

Uncommen Challenge:

I challenge you to find your family and fill the home with Uncommen mutual love. Identify sinful patterns that create painful consequences that are being felt by family and admit the nature of wrongdoings.
