In the Day-to-Day
Courage.
It’s the quality of heroes and a characteristic we all desire. The question is, how? How can we apply the nature of courage to our day-to-day?
Rarely does life go as planned. Oftentimes, we’re struck by the unexpected, like an unforeseen gust of wind. It can take our breath away, knock us off our feet and, if we’re not prepared, leave us in a state of fear and insecurity.
This is why we need courage.
In Joshua 1:9 God says, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (ESV).
In Hebrew, that word “courage” means “steadfastly minded.” What a powerful definition, especially in the context of 2 Timothy 1:7, which says, For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control (ESV). And Romans 8:6 takes the thought a step further, For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace (TPT).
Life, peace, strength. Each of those qualities can be characteristics of your life through the Holy Spirit, who wants to give you courage as you set your mind on Him.
Personal Reflection
What is one situation in your life where you need courage right now? What have you been focusing on — the problem and uncertainty, or the promise and truth that God is with you?
