Better Together

DAY 11 OF 14

GUARD YOUR EYES

We are experiencing an unprecedented supply of pornography available on every digital unit. Never before has it been so easy to access. Even if you’re not consuming pornography yourself it affects you as your husband, girlfriend, brother or father does. It has become a visual drug as addictive as any other.

Looking at porn will fill our mind with images we will later on project on others. We objectify women, attain a twisted concept of what sex is or believe we must like and do everything they’re doing on the screen. We give the devil a bucket load of ammunition to harm or even destroy present and future relationships.

Job made a covenant with his eyes not to look lustfully on a young woman. He set up a clear boundary. Today many of us instead are programmed to gaze. We want to see more and click the link, choose movies with nudity and make up all sorts of excuses to feed the ever increasing appetite. We need to take the fight over our mind and guard our eyes.

We can make fun of Solomon who in-spite of his wisdom and wealth ended his life in tragedy. With a thousand wives his addiction to power and sex was way out of hand and he simply took everything within his reach. Eventually it even destroyed his relationship with God, when he replaced the source of his blessing with other gods. I can’t help but think this is what porn does to crowds of men and - on an increasing level - women of our time. The Church is no exception.

You are not alone in your struggle. Find the courage to open up to someone you can trust. Activate adult filter on your phone and ask a friend to set the password. Ask forgiveness, God never ceases to forgive.

See yourself five years from now. Perhaps you have a family, perhaps you’re a parent. Does that person watch porn?
