DAY 10 OF 38

Years ago, I was gifted with a tiny peach tree. I was really excited to plant it because who doesn’t love a good peach. My wife and I were looking forward to hopefully growing a few peaches to enjoy. Whether to eat it right off the branch on a hot summer’s day or wishfully making a peach cobbler one day. Well, as you could guess, my peach tree barely grew and never produced any peaches. As I write this, I know there are those of you who have green thumbs and can make anything grow, but the good Lord did not give me that gift. My wife and I tried for years to get it to produce at least one peach so we could see the fruit of our labor. After three years, our peach tree never produced. To be honest, there were moments I was frustrated because it was taking up prime real estate in my yard. Unfortunately, we’ve moved into another house and I haven’t seen whether or not there’s been any progress with that tree. But I wonder if the new owners are having the same struggle. My apologies if you’re reading this.

People can be much like that peach tree. To bring it even closer to home, you and I can be like that peach tree. We can go years with just taking up space and not actually producing any fruit in our life. Jesus showed that it was to produce good fruit in our lives. He exemplifies the fruit of the Spirit which is: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. If we’re not producing Godly fruit in our lives for God’s glory, we’re missing out on an opportunity to be used by God. That’s amazing!

Are you producing fruit in your life? God is so gracious towards us. Therefore, what do you need to repent of so you can produce Godly fruit that honors Him?

About this Plan

Illuminate

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness again, but will have the light of life.” In this daily Bible reading plan, Illuminate, we study the teachings of Jesus found in the Gospel of Luke chapters 12-17. In these passages of Scripture, Jesus sheds light on the kingdom of God and guides us to live our lives in light of eternity.
