How To Journey Into the Unknown

DAY 1 OF 3

Day 1: Trust God's Voice More Than Facts

“Whatever He says to you, do it.” (John 2:5 AMP)

On April 30th 2012, I embarked on a journey that would shape the rest of my life. I was a fresh graduate of Microbiology at the time. I have had quite a number of job offers that I had turned down and I had an interview scheduled for that date to take up a teaching role. However, I left all of that to head to Lagos, Nigeria in yieldedness to a persuasion I felt in my heart—that God was calling me into pastoral ministry. It was plainly a journey into the unknown.

Looking back after many years of making that decision, I couldn’t be more glad that I yielded to that prompting. Indeed, God has been faithful.

In reality, we all get to such junctions in life when we have to take a first step into the unknown. How do we navigate that? I thought to share here three lessons that helped me in my journey into the unknown. Here’s the first:

Trust God's voice more than facts.

We always have the choice to go by the message the Spirit of God is communicating with us per time, or to go by the facts available—and more often than none, the two will conflict. We need to get to that point where we develop a resolution to prioritise God’s Word above all else.

At the wedding where Jesus performed His first miracle at the plea of his mum, Mary made it a point of duty to leave this all-important instruction with the servers: “Whatever Jesus tells you, make sure that you do it!” (John 2:5 TPT)

So when Jesus said “Now take some water and give it to the man in charge of the feast.” The servants did as Jesus told them. (verse 8 CEV)

The result? A miracle! Indeed, factually, it was water, but the virtue of obedience often paves way for the miraculous. Receive the grace to obey. Amen.

Over to you . . .

  • Is there something God has been laying in your heart to do? Take the first step today!
