DAY 4 OF 7

Day Four

“God, today is just blah.

Scripture: Psalm 119:28, 32; 2 Corinthians 12:9–10; Psalm 31:24

Not every day will be a best day kind of day. You’ve probably learned that by now. Some days will be long. Some days will be average. Some days will be just . . . blah

You have to get out of your comfy bed way too early.

School drags on forever.

You have to miss practice because your knee is still hurting.

Your mom makes chicken for dinner . . . again.

Your assigned reading is duller than dull.

Blah. Blah. Blah.

Some days are just plain blah.

But even when a day starts that way, it doesn’t have to stay that way. Why? Because God loves to better our blahs.

In Psalm 119, we read of a man who was having a very blah day. He was sad and lonely and feeling sorry for himself when a thought occurred to him . . . a thought that just might help. He said to God:

I weep with sorrow;

encourage me by your word. . . .

I will pursue your commands,

for you expand my understanding. (vv. 28, 32)

Now, you may not be “weeping with sorrow,” as the psalmist was, but is there some part of you that can relate? Do you need a fresh dose of energy? Do you long for encouragement to come your way? If so, then reach for your Bible and look up the verses at the beginning of today’s devotional. How might these words better your blahs today?

God, on days when things feel kind of blah, I love remembering that You still see me, that You still love me, and that You’re still working in my life. Help me to rest in that knowledge. Help me to be just as content with the quiet sameness of life as I am with the exciting events. Amen.
