Blessings On Blessings On Blessings
“By Myself I have sworn, says the Lord, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply.” Genesis 22:16-17
Everyone wants to experience the fruit of their labor. Guess what? God wants to give it to you, too. Abraham was asked by God to take his only son Isaac, who he loved very much, and offer him as a sacrifice. Doubt could have easily consumed Abraham, considering that sons were of extreme value. Plus, he and Sarah conceived Isaac during old age with divine intervention. Despite all of this, Abraham had great faith and trusted God fully, so he was obedient.
He took Isaac to Mt. Moriah, presenting him as a living sacrifice. He laid him on the wood, taking the knife to slay his son. An angel called out to him, telling him not to harm Isaac. It was a setup. God wanted to see if Abraham trusted Him and reverenced Him enough to give his prized possession. But, it was never God’s intention to have Isaac sacrificed. Abraham passed the test and was blessed beyond measure.
God does not desire to cause hurt and pain. Sometimes, He just wants to know we trust Him and are willing to sacrifice. Isaac can metaphorically represent money, possessions, or pride, just to name a few. Remember to continually give God your best, and don’t allow worldly things to overshadow ways God has made provision in your life.
Pray with us: Lord, help us to give you our first fruits- time, love, and money. Show us ways to give back to you, as you have given so much to us. In Jesus' name, Amen.
