Goodbye, Self-Doubt!

DAY 3 OF 6

God laid out a clear game plan for Moses. He was to go to the Israelites and reveal God’s plans for their rescue from slavery. And he was to speak to Pharaoh and say the made-famous-by-Hollywood words, "Let my people go."

But there was a little problem. At least Moses seemed to think so.

Moses had a speech impediment. He describes himself as “slow of speech and tongue.” (verse 10). He reminds God that he has “never been eloquent.”

God asking Moses to speak to Pharaoh was like telling someone with stage fright to do a stand-up routine in front of an audience of thousands at the Apollo Theater. By human evaluation, it wasn’t just nerve-wracking—it was a plan that was bound to fail. Right? No! Not when God is the One calling us to the impossible.

God often calls us to step out of the tried and tested. He calls us to take a risk and try something that doesn’t seem quite “reasonable.” He may even call us to something that we’ve failed at before.

When Moses presented a series of “reasons” why he wasn’t qualified, God reminded him of some powerful truths.

Exodus 4: 11 says: The Lord said to him, “Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and teach you what to say.”

What a powerful reminder to us, too. God is the author of every talent, every gift, every ability.

Today if you believe that God is calling you to step out into your purpose, don’t let your version of “I have never been eloquent” stop you. Every resource, including energy, talent, ability and skill, belongs to Him. He has an entire stock-pile of them. And He will supply your need according to His riches in Christ Jesus (Phil 4: 19).

When insecurity comes cruising into your thoughts, you can hit the brakes on it with the truth that God displays His power through the most unlikely and the least qualified.

Lean In: Father God, I thank You that in my weakness Your strength is made perfect. I thank You that You give me everything I need for life and for godliness. May the labels of the world not stop me from pursuing Your call on my life. I acknowledge that You are the Author of every good gift. Amen.

About this Plan

Goodbye, Self-Doubt!

“Live out your purpose.” We often hear statements like that, but we’re plagued by doubt and insecurity. We’re fearful of stepping into our calling because we’re hemmed in by the “what if’s?” of life. We find ourselves trapped by feelings of inadequacy. In this Bible Plan, we’ll look at truths from Scripture to silence self-doubt and walk in the sufficiency that comes from God.
