Real Hope: God's Heart for YouНамуна
He Calls Us Friend
Often when people think of God, they imagine Him as some sort of fearsome dictator with a long list of difficult rules. You can’t do this; you can’t do that. If we step out of line, He’s there with a big stick and a fiery punishment.
The surprising thing is that, while Jesus was on earth, He described our relationship with God very differently: He said, "I no longer call you servants, because a servant doesn’t know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."
Jesus doesn’t call us servants; He calls us friends. There’s an enormous difference! Think about the relationship you have with your boss compared to the relationship you have with a friend. The boss tells you what to do but doesn’t tell you why. The boss is unlikely to call you into the boardroom and share the deepest secrets of his heart with you.
But Jesus does. The God of Heaven invites us to listen as He shares His innermost thoughts. He wants to speak to you as a friend. This is what Jesus promised. What have we to fear?
