Five Days of Jesus’ Names

DAY 2 OF 5

Who Is This King of Glory?

The entire Old Testament speaks in anticipation of a coming King who would one day rule on earth from the perspective of heaven. He would come through the Jews, sit on the throne of David, and from Israel would oversee and rule the world.

This King has come. His name is Jesus.

We know Him as Lord. We recognize Him as Savior. We see that He is the living Lamb. We sing about Him as Immanuel. But what I am afraid we have done in focusing so heavily on those attributes of Jesus is that we have missed out on much of the power that comes from Jesus in living our daily lives.

To acknowledge Jesus as King conjures up responses of obedience, dependence, honor, respect, self-sacrifice, and more. It goes against what our culture seeks to tell us is the way to live our lives. Yet, regardless, He is King.

Additional study:

1. Read Luke 12:31-32. What is the result of seeking Jesus’ kingdom and His rulership over all? In what ways should this truth impact your emotions?

2. Consider a time when you did not seek Christ’s kingdom first. What was the result? What are some hesitations you feel when considering seeking Christ’s kingdom and His agenda above your own?

About this Plan

Five Days of Jesus’ Names

His name is Jesus. While this is true, we find that the incomprehensible nature of our God cannot be limited to just one name. The truth is, He has many. The Bible identifies Jesus in many ways so that we might relate to Him in a bigger way. Journey through the next five days to learn a few of those wonderful names.
