Jesus Only: Part One

DAY 19 OF 35

Week 3, Day 5 - Thursday

I can hear the chatter of countless motivational speakers in my head…“If I can do it, you can do it too!” I really can’t tell you how many times I’ve crashed and burned trying things I really wasn’t built to handle, but I tried anyway. Those moments have been humbling, to say the least.

However, when it comes to our spirituality, I’m confident that when Jesus promises that we’ll do greater things than these, He means it. And here’s why. Over the last few days, we’ve been reminded that Christ is supreme, He is before all things, the Creator of all things, and He has existed since the beginning of time.

Yet, when Jesus chose to step down from heaven to live among us as both fully God and fully human, He emptied Himself completely. So when we take a look at Jesus’ life, His sacrifices, His humility, His miracles, and His love, we are reminded that He accomplished all of this in complete surrender and reliance on His Father in heaven.

So to live as Jesus did here on earth is absolutely possible. When we embrace the idea that we are helpless on our own and by our own efforts, then and only then can we learn to rely on the same Spirit that dwelt in Jesus.

Reflection Question:

What could change for you if you chose to live each day as Jesus did, fully reliant on your heavenly Father?

Prayer:

Father, I confess that there are moments where I want to take control, or I struggle to know if you are fully present in each moment. Help me to have the same type of faith that Jesus did on earth, so I can join You in the work You’re already doing. Amen.
