Where Will You Position Yourself?
In recent times, I think we have come to understand that our church is not about a physical place, but about the people who are part of it. Today we may find ourselves in our homes and in places all around the world, but no matter where we are, we are still part of God's family, part of a larger house than our own.
I love that, for the psalmist, the house of God was a refuge; it was the place where he could behold the beauty of the Lord and find shelter in the midst of affliction.
Do people feel that way when they think of the Church? If you are the Church, how do people feel after having a conversation with you? Relieved? Empowered? Comforted?
Our God is an inexhaustible source of blessing for those who fear Him, and Psalm 31 remains true to this day, because God's goodness does not diminish.
To live under God's shadow means to be close to Him. For someone's shadow to cover us when we walk beside them, we need to get very close. In the same way, we can only experience God's covering if we walk beside Him.
It is not the shadow of this world, but the shadow of the Most High that covers our lives when we trust God. You decide which shadow to place yourself under. If you feel distressed today, I encourage you to run into His presence, spend time with God in prayer and immerse yourself in His Word. Decide to nourish your faith instead of your fears.
What we decide to focus on will determine the shadow that will cover our lives. If we choose to focus on Jesus, we will find restoration, provision, and blessing under His shadow.
