Anxious About MoneyНамуна
Fix Your Mindset
The way we view money and possessions is just as important as how we actually spend and use them. If we dread this aspect of our lives, we’ll be less likely to make changes and have a better outlook on money. However, if we see it as an opportunity to not only have a stronger financial future but also to look at it with fresh vision, the sky is truly the limit on how God wants to use us.
The passage at the end of Matthew 6:19-34 is possibly the most popular in the New Testament when it comes to money and worry. Clearly, this has been a struggle since Jesus walked the earth, because He addressed it back then. There’s so much insight and wisdom in these sixteen verses, but let’s break down the key points so that we can fix our mindsets when it comes to financial anxiety.
Earth Isn’t Home
There’s a reason Jesus tells us not to “store up treasures on earth.” It’s because earth, though we currently reside here, isn’t our final destination. For the follower of Jesus, the amount of time we’ll spend on earth holds no comparison to our eternity in heaven. That’s why we’re encouraged to look at the big picture in loving God, others, and sharing Jesus because eternity is longer than our finite minds can grasp.
Serve God
Money and possessions are flashy and fun. No wonder we desire them! The problem with money is that we often get confused by it. We end up loving it when we should love God. Money and possessions can be enjoyed, but the moment they take up residence in our hearts, we’ve replaced God. We can’t serve both. Let’s love God wholeheartedly and enjoy the blessings He’s given us, not the other way around.
Push Worry Aside
Jesus taught that worry is futile. It produces no fruit. There’s absolutely nothing that comes from it. Worrying would make sense if it was productive. But it isn’t. Worrying about a situation doesn’t prevent it from happening. The moment we sense ourselves worrying about money, let’s recognize it and go directly to God with that concern.
Think Of The Birds
Jesus told us that the birds in the air and the flowers in the field are provided for. And they’re just birds and flowers! How much more does He care for us? An immense amount! He cares for us more than He cares for other created things. He didn’t die on the cross for them—He died for us! So, when you see a bird, remember how much God loves you.
There is nothing God isn’t capable of doing. He’s mighty, loving, and faithful to His promises. Let’s renew our mindset and trust Him at all times.
