Share Truth with Others – Woman at the Well
Nix the excuses! Today’s devotional will give you the courage to share your faith with others. Looking at the story of the Samaritan woman and her encounter with Jesus will help you overcome fear so you can boldly share the gospel.
“The woman said, ‘I know the Messiah is coming—the one who is called Christ. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.’ Then Jesus told her, ‘I AM the Messiah!’ ... The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone.” (John 4:25–26, 28).
Pray: Lord, let me clearly observe truth in your Word and properly apply it to my life.
Observe: When we’ve learned something we are excited about, we want to tell others. When we discover a better way of doing things, we want to show others. And when we experience a life change, we can’t wait to share our encounter in hopes others will experience it too.
Our primary biblical command is to “go and make disciples of all the nations” (Matthew 28:19). Yet sharing our salvation can be one of the hardest experiences to share—often because we’re afraid. We fear conflict or challenges from non-believers; we fear others will disapprove of our stance; we fear we simply don’t know enough. And sometimes we fear others won’t believe us because of our past. We must regularly challenge ourselves to overcome our fears.
None of these excuses kept the woman of Samaria from sharing her faith. In John chapter 4, we read of Jesus’ encounter with a woman at Jacob’s well. This woman was a sinner, shamed by her lifestyle, drawing water at a time of day when no others were around.
But on that day, she met the Messiah, who changed her life forever. In response and in spite of her reputation, she boldly ran back to her village to tell “everyone.” She was strong and courageous, and she became the first woman evangelist of the city of Samaria.
Courageously share your faith by practicing the following:
1. Pray and ask God to give you the courage and opportunity to share your faith.
2. Be aware at all times of others in need of encouragement.
3. Practice sharing your faith by sharing it with someone you feel safe with, like a family member or close friend.
4. Put aside any hesitation and start a conversation with someone by asking how you can pray for him or her.
Interpret: We are strong and courageous when we overcome our fears and choose to share our faith.
Apply: Will you share your faith today? Look for opportunities to tell others about the hope you have found. The more you practice, the easier it becomes.
Pray: Father, open my eyes to the needs of others and give me the courage to share my faith. Help me boldly tell of your life-saving grace and the hope that’s available as we surrender to you.
