Does God's Sovereignty Reign in Your Life?Намуна
In the Bread & Cheese Moments
Deliver bread and cheese to the ones fighting the war—that was David’s job. How unimportant is that in light of the circumstances Israel was going through at this time? In times of war the important roles are the captains, the soldiers, and the ones involved with this history-changing event, not the ones delivering the food.
That’s how we think most of the time but David’s response to this seemingly unimportant chore proves that he did not think this way. In verse 20 we find that David did not complain about the lack of importance he or his job had, nor did he beg his dad to let him fight in the war, and he didn’t even complain about leaving his sheep. David simply obeyed.
Why did David obey and not complain? Because, as we will see throughout David’s life, he truly believed that God was in control of and involved with everything in his life and that included the “bread and cheese moments”—those everyday moments that seem too unimportant for anyone, especially God, to be concerned or involved with.
When we think about this “bread and cheese” moment, we might not realize that what David was truly doing was not just delivering food but obeying one of God’s Ten Commandments—“Honor thy father and mother.” Could it possibly be that God was waiting to see if David would be faithful in the everyday, seemingly unimportant things of life before He entrusted him with something more? If that’s so, could we miss out on big opportunities God has for us because we are not faithful in the smaller, everyday tasks He has set before us?
Does God’s sovereignty—the fact that He is in control of and involved with everything in your life—reign and guide the decisions you make in those “bread and cheese moments”? These moments may seem unimportant to you and those around you but, if God is truly sovereign, He is not only seeing those “bread and cheese” moments but He is in control of allowing those very moments to enter your life.
MEDITATION FOR THE DAY: Think of some of these “bread and cheese moments” of tasks you do everyday that seem unimportant and think about how God might use those things to glorify (reflect) Himself to you and those around you.

About this Plan
God’s sovereignty...although it sounds like a deep subject but it’s important to your Christian life. When we look at the life of David, it’s clear that God is in control of everything in our life, whether we believe it or not. Over the next five days consider whether God’s sovereignty reigns in your life.
