The Power of PentecostНамуна
There is no doubt the day of Pentecost is one of the most significant and powerful days in human history. Pentecost has resulted in life-changing, world-changing, and even eternity-changing events, from that very day until the present.
Consider what happened and what began to happen on the day of Pentecost.
As soon as the followers of Jesus were filled with the Holy Spirit, they began to move with supernatural power. They spoke in languages of which they had no knowledge before that moment because, “the Spirit gave them utterance.” The result of Pentecost is that followers of Jesus have the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit available to them just as these Believers received that day.
Also, there were people from many nations in Jerusalem that day. They all heard and understood the mighty deeds of God being declared in their own languages from these Believers. Immediately, the message of the Gospel was made available to people, nations, and languages in ways it had never been before. Another result of Pentecost was that the heart of God for the world was revealed through demonstrative activity, initiating a worldwide ministry of salvation for anyone anywhere.
In addition, Peter, who was now under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, preached a message in which nearly 3,000 people repented of their sins and gave their lives to Jesus Christ. The result of Pentecost was effective, fruitful, Kingdom ministry, resulting in life-changing and eternity-altering impact in the lives of people.
In a sense, all the results of Pentecost described so far impact the lives of individuals. The results of Pentecost are always personal, but also have a communal dimension that cannot and should not be overlooked.
The Church was born at Pentecost.
It was not just individuals, now “clothed with power from on high,” but it was now those individuals moving, working, and serving together as a single Body. Different people with different personalities, having different natural abilities and different spiritual gifts were joined together by one single factor: their allegiance to the One true, eternal God. Jesus was their Lord, their priority, their Head, and the One to whom they all were attached, making them, therefore, a part of the one, single, Body of Christ. The Church was the result of Pentecost, and the Church began to change the world.
The book of Acts tells us the early Church, “turned the world upside-down.” As spirit-filled believers were united and devoted together “to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer,” they became a mobilized force of evangelism and discipleship. As the world heard their message and observed how well they loved and took care of one another, the distinctive flavor of Jesus was tasted, and the message of the Gospel began to spread.
Through the ages, it has continued. We, too, are the result of Pentecost, as the power of the presence of Jesus has filled believers of every age for fruitful ministry.
The results of Pentecost continue and will continue until people from every nation, kindred, tribe, and tongue gather around the throne to praise and worship Jesus Christ, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
