God Is ForeverНамуна
Friendship is fleeting, but GOD is forever
The other day, I paged through my grade school yearbooks. Besides the questionable clothing choices and baffling hairstyles, I was struck by a simple fact—I haven’t seen those people in years. My dearest friends from those days are now distant memories.
That’s how most friendships work, right? Friends come and friends go. You get close and then drift away. The dorm, job, or team brings you together, but then the busyness of life pulls you apart. Even friendships that survive the decades are threatened by the grim realities of Alzheimer’s and unavoidable funerals.
This, by contrast, is why I adore GOD. Jesus, GOD in human flesh, once said, “I have called you friends” (John 15:15). Instead of merely being our Savior or our King, Jesus is willing to also be our friend. The friend who gets what we’re going through (Hebrews 4:15). The friend who cares about our anxiety (1 Peter 5:7). The friend who will be there forever, since he has risen from the grave (Matthew 28:10,20).
I don’t know if you have good friends or battle loneliness, but I do know this—Christians are never alone because the eternal GOD calls us His forever friends.
