DAY 2 OF 3

Small Gifts in the Hands of a Great God

The New Testament mentions Andrew around nine times. He did not call attention to himself, but we would not have Peter walking on water or preaching to multitudes in Pentecost if it were not for Andrew. All through the history of the church, we find people like Andrew: People whose life may seem “small” but whose service, in the hands of a great God, was grandiose.

Have you ever heard of Edward Kimbell? This Sunday School teacher woke up one day and felt that he had to share the gospel with a man who worked at a shoe store. He was nervous; he did not know if that man, D. L. Moody, would care about what he had to say. Yet Kimbell felt God’s leading, so he obeyed.

Kimbell later wrote: “After praying . . ., I arranged to visit D. L. Moody at the boot store. I was determined to speak to him about Christ and his soul. . . When I was nearly there, I began to wonder whether I ought to go in . . . I thought my call might embarrass the boy, and that when I went away, the other clerks would . . .  taunt him . . . [But] I determined to make a dash for it, and have it over at once. I found him in the back part of the building, wrapping up shoes. . . Putting my hand on his shoulder, I made what I felt afterward was a very weak plea for Christ. . . I simply told him of Christ's love for him, and the love Christ wanted in return. . . There in the back of that store in Boston, D. L. Moody gave himself and his life to Christ.”

D. L. Moody led thousands to Christ because one day, Mr. Kimbell obeyed the Holy Spirit. We consider our actions are small and insignificant, but in the hands of a great God, they can have a massive impact

What can God do when we put our “little” gifts in His hands? We spend our lives giving excuses or telling ourselves our actions will not have a major impact on others. Trust God! Listen to the Holy Spirit’s voice; what may seem insignificant to you, in God’s hands, can have an extraordinary impact. Who is that One soul that God has put in your heart? Who is your One?

About this Plan

[Who's Your One? Series] Valuable

Have you ever doubted or questioned the impact of your service to God? Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, is not known for walking on water; nevertheless, his actions, as little or insignificant as they may seem, had great value in the eyes of God. Andrew understood the importance of one single soul, of faithful service, and how small things can become great in the hands of an Almighty God.
