I Have Questions: What Does Honor Have To Do With Our Relationships?

DAY 4 OF 5

If there’s one thing we all know how to do, it’s that we know how to think of ourselves first! Whether we want to admit it or not, we’re all pretty good at putting our own needs before the needs of others. And while that isn’t always a bad thing, it’s never a good thing to be so self-centered we run the risk of disrespecting the people around us—which, as followers of Jesus, we have been called to respect others. Respecting someone means to place as high a value on their well-being as you do your own—to think about how your words, choices, or actions might affect them more than they do you. It’s choosing what’s best for the other person in spite of what you want for yourself.

This isn’t always easy, so we have Jesus as our model—the ultimate example of respect, humility, and honor. So, if you’re struggling to lay down your rights or wants out of respect for someone else, go back to Jesus. Spend time this week reading about His life and how He treats others as a model for how you should treat the people in your life, too.
