All In

DAY 22 OF 31

We’ve already looked at the first breaking of bread in Acts 2:42. Today, we will look at the breaking of bread from house to house in Acts 2:46. Isn’t this the same thing? Not exactly.

Everyone needs to eat to live, but most of the time, eating is simply for the sake of enjoying the food and the company of people in our lives. When you think about it, a lot of things in life are scheduled around eating: lunch meetings, parties, baby showers, even the Super Bowl!

When we read in Acts 2:46 about the breaking of bread from house to house, I was reminded of a time earlier in my marriage when my husband and I led a young adult Bible study in our home. I will always treasure the talks, laughs, and sometimes tears we shared around the table. After the breaking of bread, we would move into the family room for a time to encounter God and grow together in His Word. After reading Acts 2, I am more convinced than ever that pairing spiritual feeding with physical feeding is biblical!

In my family, we make it a priority to eat together and connect with one another. Sometimes it is a real struggle to get everyone to the table and away from the technology screens that steal us away from each other. But there is something about the shape of a table—if we can power down and put down everything that distracts us long enough to look at each other in the face, life gets simpler and conversations often get a lot more real.

About this Plan

All In

"All In" comes from Acts 2:42-47, where the Holy Spirit fell on Jesus's disciples and transformed the hearts and lives of everyone present on the Day of Pentecost. Over the next month, these devotions and verses by Faith Promise pastors and staff will lay out God’s plan to mobilize us to bring about the next great move of God.
