Audacious - The Man Who Claimed to Be God

DAY 5 OF 8

I AM THE WAY, TRUTH, LIFE

You don’t have to watch or read the news for too long before you start feeling overwhelmed, troubled and sad.

John 14:1-14 opens with some very troubled men gathered around a dinner table. It was the last night of Jesus’ life on earth and the mood was heavy.

Jesus has just announced to them that one of them at the table will soon betray Him, and that Peter will soon deny Him. Then He tells His disciples that He is going somewhere where they cannot follow. Everything seems to be unravelling. The disciples’ hearts are heavy and they are deeply troubled. Then Jesus turns to them as they recline around the table and He tells them not to be troubled and to believe also in Him.

Jesus goes on to share some profound and sweet words stating that there are many rooms in his Father’s house, that there He is preparing a place for them.

Jesus is speaking of course about heaven. He explains that He is going to heaven and that He is preparing a place for them there.

In Ecclesiastes 3:11, it states that God has placed eternity in the heart of man. Only God can both satisfy our longing for eternity and provide hope for eternity.

We all have hearts that are troubled here on earth and we each long to be in our Father’s house, where restless hearts are calmed and peace and joy are our reality. Jesus didn’t come to show us a way, or to teach a truth, or to help us have a slightly better life. He came to be the way, to embody the truth and to be our life!

Practical application:

If you find yourself overwhelmed, troubled, burdened or sad today, spend some time in Jesus’ presence and believe His promise that He is the way, the truth and the life, both in the here and now, and for eternity.
