Jesus | Jesus Is a Servant
Human beings are notoriously self-centered. We’re born that way. Self-centeredness seeps into every area of life. If you’re ever to really mature as a person and grow spiritually, you must change from being self-centered to being Christ-centered. In order to do this, you must be born again. When you get saved, you die to self and begin serving God. Jesus told us, “Whoever desires to be great among you needs to learn to be a servant.” Instead of saying to God, “I want you to do for me whatever I ask,” you should say, “Lord, I want to do for You whatever You ask.” You need to deny yourself, take up Christ’s cross and follow Him. As a born-again Christian, you take the focus off yourself and place it on Jesus.
Being born again is the first step away from self-centeredness, but God actually wants you to take it a step further. He wants you to mature and become less and less self-centered and more and more others-centered. He wants you to begin placing your brothers and sisters above you and start serving them. If you say Jesus is number one in your life, the real test is whether or not you serve others.
When Jesus came to earth, He lived the life of a servant. He preached and practiced servanthood by dying to self, taking up the cross and following God the Father. You can’t say, “I serve God,” and not serve people. Jesus is our example, and He is a servant. Anyone that wants to be like Jesus has to be a servant. So, how are you going to serve?
